Yamanekoken – a cozy café between Ryoan-ji Temple and Kinkaku-ji Temple

Yamanekoken – place where you can relax and have a nice time in Kyoto.

Yamanekoken is a comfortable and cute café which you can take a break or have lunch while sightseeing at famous temples in Kyoto

Yamanekoken café is located at kinukakeno-michi road between two very famous sightseeing places in Kyoto, Kinkaku-ji temple (Golden Pavillion) and Ryoan-ji temple. If you are visiting these two temples and want to have a good meal at a nice place, you can take city bus no. 59 from Kinkaku-ji to Ryoanji-mae bus stop and then walk for 1 minute or you can walk form Ryoanji directly. From other places like Kyoto station or downtown of Kyoto, you can go to this café by bus or train. For bus, you can take city bus no. 50 from JR or Kintetsu “Kyoto station” to "Ritsumeikan daigaku-mae", then walk for 5 minutes, or city bus no. 59 from Keihan Railway “Sanjo station” to "Ryoanji-mae" stop, then walk for 1 minutes. If you want to have a break after visiting Arashiyama, you can take the Keifuku Kitano Line to “Ryoanji station”, then walk about 7 minutes.

The café is on the basement floor, and its appearance is very cute. After going down and entering the café, you will see a cozy place suitable for relaxation.
For lunch menu, they offer pastas and sandwiches. For desserts, they have many kinds of sweets, such as waffles (about 900-1100 yen), parfaits (about 600-800 yen), and cakes (about 600 yen). They also have different kinds of coffee, which costs about 600 yen.

It was quite late in the afternoon when I visited, so I had waffles for afternoon snacks. The waffles have matcha with red bean paste and topped with vanilla ice cream. The waffle costs 1080 yen.

The matcha is mixed with the dough, and so the waffles were a bit green in color. The waffles were very crispy and warm, creating a perfect contrast with the cold ice cream. The whip cream has a strong milk flavor, but was not too sweet. It goes well with the sweet red bean paste, delicious!
These are the cakes shown in the case. You can choose to eat them at the café or take them back home.

After finishing the waffles, I had a light conversation with my friends for a while to take a break before our next destination. I really had nice time and nice memory here, and I was very satisfied.
